DuckDuckGo is a search engine that does not track user information or personalize search results. It also offers and app and browser extension that work to protect user information.
DuckDuckGo is not entirely open source and is run by a private, for-profit company. The main distinguishing feature is the company's commitment to user privacy.

Bangs: a gateway to the internet
Unlike Google, which seeks to keep users in its ecosystem through a range of services and specialized search tools, DuckDuckGo is designed to be a gateway to a variety of third-party search tools. Through its Bangs feature, users can pass queries around the web with commands like !twitter, !scholar, !worldcat, and more.
