CodiMD is an online collaborative text editor that uses the Markdown markup language. It is the free/libre/open community version of HackMD.

Use cases

Create collaborative documents

Run a self-hosted CodiMD installation as part of a classroom software package, enabling students to collaborate on documents without surveillance-based services. In the process they will also learn Markdown, a simple and widely used markup language.

How to use it

CodiMD can be self-hosted, including with Cloudron.

Replacement for

  • Etherpad - which is also free/libre/open but less actively developed
  • Google Docs
